Meet Michelle Corona

Mental Health Intern, MSWi

Michelle Corona has extensive experience working as a licensed Advanced Substance Use Disorder Counselor (ASUDC) before pursuing a dual master’s degree in Social Work and Public Administration at the University of Utah. Through her experience, she has held roles in case management, peer support, program development, and leadership across diverse settings, from emergency shelters to medication-assisted treatment programs that treat opioid use disorders.

As a first-generation Mexican American, Michelle is a dedicated advocate for social justice and collective liberation, understanding that the systems we interact with play a significant role in our lived experiences. This influences her therapeutic approach as relational, collaborative, and trauma-informed, focusing on lived experience and culture to honor the whole person. She believes that the client is the expert of their own life and that her role is to foster change by mirroring their wisdom and strengths while providing strategies to support their goals.

Michelle possesses a range of trainings and certifications, including Seeking Safety (an evidence-based approach to trauma and substance use treatment), tobacco-free training to combat nicotine dependence, and Wellbriety (a holistic model based on Native culture to treat substance use disorders). Most recently, Michelle has become Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) informed, which helps clients process traumatic memories.
